Our credit union was founded in 1976 as Greenville Gas Turbine Employees Federal Credit Union to provide access to affordable financial services to General Electric employees in Greenville, South Carolina. More than 40 years ago, a dedicated group of people worked to create this member-owned, financial services cooperative. Today, we continue to operate for the benefit of members.
Over time, we have grown to serve not only GE employees and their family members in the Greenville area, but also the employees and families of a number of other companies including GE contractors and vendors.
On December 1, 2019, Turbine Credit Union merged with Self-Help Credit Union. Self-Help Credit Union has branches in South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida and in Southwest Virginia, and is part of the Center for Community Self-Help (aka Self-Help). Since 1980, Self-Help has provided over $8.5 billion in financing to more than 159,000 families, individuals and businesses. Self-Help’s mission is to create and protect ownership & economic opportunity for all.
Serve the individual financial needs of our members in a changing environment. We will provide quality products and services to meet those needs and process each request in an efficient and dedicated manner.
What we believe:
That being smaller and unique is better than large and generic
All members are important, equal and valued
Our sole purpose is to be a valued financial services cooperative for our members, our sponsor companies and all of their employees.
Who Can Join?
As a financial services cooperative, Turbine Federal Credit Union has a well-defined field of membership. Originally formed to serve employees of the GE Gas Turbine facility in Greenville, South Carolina, we now serve employees of GE contractor and vendors and the family members of an existing credit union.
